The World Outside Your Door

Skylar's mom came into town this weekend, and we took a spontaneous jaunt into the city on Saturday.  It was the perfect random spring day in the middle of summer, sunny, breezy, in the 70s.  

We played in Central Park, and then had the best little diner lunch.  God, I love me a good diner.

It was beginning to sink in before Saturday, and our little day trip only confirmed it.  I miss city life.  I miss it like an amputee misses a limb.  I keep taking Harper out on our front stoop to watch the world go by, like we did in Chicago.  In Chicago there were moms and strollers, strangers, neighbors, high school students, and a very oddly large population of bunnies.  

Here, there are trees and quiet, bugs and poison ivy, and families of raccoons and deer who eat thing they shouldn't, for instance, our trash.  It is like summer camp, all the time and you can never ever go home, because it is home.   

Any-who, Harper gave her Grammy the biggest best hug in the history of hugs this morning when she left for Florida.  Grandparents are the best.  Grammy even had the good since to get a swing to hang from a tree.  Now we will have a new activity to keep us busy in the back yard, away from our uneventful stoop.
