Peacocks Bite Babies

We went to Silverman's Farm again today.  We just can't get enough of that place, they even have coupons!  That is right: apple picking, pumpkin patch, petting zoo, and coupons.  It is like Disney on Ice, but fun.

     

While I was off chatting, ignoring my very adventurous active busy toddler, she was bitten by a peacock.  The good news is that peacock bites are not so bad.  It was one of those moments where the real pain of the situation was my failure.  

Another mama had been by Harper the entire time, gently explaining that putting little fingers in the bird cage was probably not a good thing.  There I was in the background, running my mouth, oblivious.  And, there was Harper, ignoring warnings and crying out in pain.  Oh well, people learn best through experience anyhow, right?

Now we'll be well prepared the next time we encounter a peacock at a petting zoo.  Strait up: "No touch!"

 

Nesting... & cookies shaped like a mouse: flavor?

The cookies I mentioned yesterday, Chocolate Chip Cranberry Pistachio & Chocolate Dipped Spice Cookies, are up in our etsy shop.  Can you believe it?  How quick was that?  Ah, the benefit of having my mom close by is kicking in already.  Not to mention, Harper has been taking 3 1/2 hour long naps.  (And, now that I have publicly bragged about that, she will never ever nap again.  Me and my big mouth.)

Any-who, I am 16 1/2 weeks pregnant today.  Although the Baby Center e-mail seems to have omitted this point, this is the week the crazy nesting/gathering hormones must begin to kick in.  Even Harper is has been affected.  From about 3 1/2 feet down, there are no berries on our holly bush.  They are all in her toy stroller.  Poor girl, she would have been so much happier with a wagon.

Suddenly I feel an overwhelming urge to paint everything in our house.  The logic that we live in a rental, and we have no idea how long we plan on staying as we are bran spanking new to the area, has held me back from heading to the paint store, so far.  Instead, I have taken to window shopping on etsy.  Free sheer joy and little mess, how can you go wrong?  Here are a few highlights:

There was a little bit of summer light left today, and Harper took plenty of time to enjoy it.  When she was not picking holly berries from our larger than life holly bush, she was running around with my mom's pack of very small and very fluffy dogs.  

These bits of light have been replaced tonight by the most lovely rain.  Oh, Autumn is beginning!  No doubt peoples, it will rock.  This is New England, after all.  Mmmm, and it tastes so good.  Coming soon:

A Cat Named Snickers and Some Technical Difficulties

It has been mini-tragedy central in these parts the last few days.  Some highlights include:

Harper fell off a bridge at the playground, about a 4 or 5 foot fall.  She does not even have a bruise to show for it, thankfully. 

Harper, while playing with the home phone, called 911.

Saturday night, Harper woke up 3 times during the night.  Shut up!  I know!  The girl has been sleeping through the night for about 9 months, and then *POOF* newborn sleeping pattern.  Oy, she is back to normal now, but I have no idea how we are going to do that all over again in March.  What have we gotten ourselves into?  Is there boarding school for newborns?  Surely they have that here, in Connecticut.

I realized I'm about 4 1/2 months pregnant, not 3 1/2 like I thought.  This is good in that I'm not as much of a fatty as I might have thought, but bad in that, well, for reasons above.

I tried playing with my blog layout, which backfired.  Now I have opened a can of worms of technical problems.  Awe hell, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, right?  (Goodness, that grammar surely just got our newborn 'wait listed' for boarding school.)

This all was stressing me out a bit, or just causing a constant state of angst and frustration.  So, I went in search of a kitten, like I don't have enough on my plate with a toddler, a baby on the way, an 80 pound mutt, and a bunny killing kitty.  That is when I found Snickers, and suddenly life seemed a lot better.  I have so much to be thankful for, for example, I'm not allergic to cotton.  Snickers is Cat of the Month at Stamford Animal Control.  You can learn more about her here, here, and enjoy this little bit of info:

We know this is a horrible photo of Snickers.  But, we wanted to get her up on the web as our featured cat of the month.  Snicker's is going through an awfully rough time right now. She was first given up when her owner died and family members could not care for her.   She is a wonderful cat, sweet and affectionate and we don’t want to give up on her just yet.  We know there may be the perfect home for Snickers.

We have learned through testing that Snickers is allergic to the following things:
 
Beets
Corn
Dairy
Oats
Cedar
Mug Wart
Black Ants
GRASS
COTTON
 
OK, we realize the first 7 items will be easy to control, however Grass and Cotton may be a challenge. Snicker's most suitable home may be one where there are primarily wood floors or one with wool blend carpets (so many carpets might contain cotton) and one with central air so the grass pollens in the summer won't affect her. And of course a special diet of good food, made without corn or dairy.   There are now many varieties on the market that don’t contain these ingredients.  Snickers is a wonderful cat and we hope someone will have just the right home for her.
