Hope your Christmas was filled with love and fun and yummy food. We had our first Christmas at home as a family, and my first Christmas not spent traveling in 13 years. It was so relaxing and mellow, even if we missed our loved ones dearly.
As it was our first Christmas, we got the chance to start our own Christmas traditions.
1. Inadequate photography. Yup, I barely snapped two pictures. This is in large part because I only got 4 hours of sleep before, tossing and turning with anticipation. I could NOT WAIT to see Harper open her presents.
2. Christmas Waffles. My mom made them, and they were beyond divine.
3. Not decorating till Christmas Eve. O.k., this was really more out of procrastination than anything else. We did get the tree done maybe a week or two before, but it sat naked, except for lights, in a our living room for at least a week. (I sort of liked it naked.) Christmas Eve, my mom turned to me and asked, "Where are the stockings?" "Um, I'm sewing them right now."
4. Christmas Gumbo. Skylar made it the day before, and it was definitely one of the top five gumbos we have ever had, ever. Really, so ridiculously good. It was also a great to have a festive one pot meal that required little to no prep on the big day. I highly recommend it.
It is always a bit of a crash after all the festivities, but a welcome one this year. Nothing rocks as much as nap time these days.
