I know, I know. I’ve been promising you pictures of the house for ages. Well, here it goes:
Harper’s Room
The bed is not made? What. I invite you over without even going to the trouble of making the bad, so tacky. But wait! Let’s take a closer look:
She has good taste in books. So?
No, come closer.
Yes. That is right. I have sewn her sheet to her bedspread to make a slip cover for her comforter. Crazy? Like a fox!
Okay, so the inspiration for this came from my new favorite book, Montessori Play and Learn. In the book, she suggests just using a comforter, without a top sheet, on your preschooler’s bed to make it easier for them to make the bed themselves. Making a daybed is no easy task for anyone, much less a three year old. But, the prospect of not using a sheet icked me out. So, I dusted off the sewing machine and made the only thing I know how to sew, a parallelogram.
The slipcover closes up with some pretty chunky awkward bows, but you don’t see them when the bed is made. And, now, rather than having to pull and tuck three layers of covers, there is just the one! Not an icky one, too! Harper is not making her bed on her own, yet, but she is enthusiastically helping me.
The bedspread is from Urban Outfitters, and was a full size, not a twin. I fell in love with the pattern, even though it was too big for the bed. But, becuase it was so big, I was able to make the pattern directional for a daybed, and not a normal bed (i.e. the little birdies don't go up to the head of the bed, but go as the would on a couch).
Oh, have you met Harpers goldfish, Big & Little? My mom and I won them at a fair in Wilton last summer, and we love them beyond measure. Really. I had no idea how much I could love a couple of fish.
My mom made the alphabet tapestry thingy for me when I was itty bitty, and the super cool alphabet print next to it is from The Black Apple.
And, this is Harper's closet. We had nothing to do with how mind blowingly fantastic it is.
Please excuse the mess. I did not style it for these pictures, and this is pertty much how Harper keeps her toys.
And, this is Casey making another mess.
And so it goes... One last thing: The little table in Harper's room is from Ikea. It is really a side table, but I put a couple layers of nonskid rubber things on the bottom to raise it up an inch or more. It has been a great toddler table, and cost about the same as a trip to Starbucks. I do love you, Ikea; I really do.
